Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Family Garden in Bromley
For this garden renovation in Bromley, the client had recently completed a rear extension and full refurbishment of their home, creating large sliding doors that opened onto the garden. The brief was to design an outdoor space that would feel like a natural extension of the home — a garden that could be experienced both from inside and outside.
The client wanted to enjoy the garden as a series of 'rooms' for different uses, including BBQs, outdoor dining, and relaxing. Just as important was the desire to maintain strong visual links to the planting and layout from within the house, so the garden felt connected and inviting all year round.
The design goals included:
Creating a seamless visual and physical flow from the house into the garden
Defining zones for dining, cooking, and relaxing outdoors
Using low planting to soften the edge of the building and frame views from inside
A simple stepping stone path to guide movement through the space
Planting that adds interest without blocking sightlines
OB Garden Design approached this project by focusing on clean lines, natural textures, and layered planting. I brought low-level greenery right up to the sliding doors to blur the boundary between inside and out. The stepping stone pathway encourages movement through the garden while allowing the planting to take centre stage. The result is a calm and connected space that complements the modern architecture of the home.
