About Oliver Burgess Garden Design

Gardens should be joyful, beautiful and full of life – that’s what I aim to create with every design. Each space is shaped around how you live, whether that means room to entertain, space for children to play, or a peaceful retreat filled with nature and biodiversity.

My Ethos
Every garden is a personal space, and I treat it that way. I take time to understand how each client wants to use their garden, then shape a design that reflects their lifestyle and values. No two gardens are the same, and neither is my approach. From detailed planting plans to thoughtful layout choices, I blend creativity with practical design to make outdoor spaces feel effortless and alive all year round.
By focusing on climate resilience, biodiversity, and timeless beauty, I create gardens that don’t just look good — they feel right. Each project is a collaboration, rooted in trust, care, and a shared vision for a space that grows more meaningful over time.

My Story
My passion for nature began early, inspired by my grandfather, a zoologist. This led me to study Biological Sciences at Birmingham University. However, the confines of a laboratory didn't align with my aspirations, so I transitioned into the property industry, spending 15 years in South East London. This experience gave me a deep understanding of how people interact with their living spaces and the value a well-designed garden can add to a home.
In 2020, I pursued a more creative path by enrolling at the London College of Garden Design at Kew Gardens, where I graduated with distinction. Now based in Beckenham, I design gardens across London and the South East. My approach combines ecological sensitivity with practical design, creating outdoor spaces that are both beautiful and functional. Whether collaborating with homeowners, architects, or developers, I aim to craft gardens that enhance the living experience and connect people with nature.
