Client Brief and Design Approach

This garden redesign in Beckenham focused focuses on improving both style and function in the rear garden, with a particular focus on access to the raised home office at the bottom of the space. The brief called for a welcoming and contemporary seating area, while also addressing a practical need for an easier, more attractive route to the office.

The new layout features a clay paver terrace with a floating hardwood bench, creating a relaxed seating area with clean, modern lines. A ramped entrance provides smooth, accessible access to the office, flanked by raised beds finished in DesignClad, ready to be filled with a planting scheme designed for year-round colour, structure, and interest. The scheme blends with established boundary shrubs and new fencing for a cohesive, finished look.

The design goals included:

  • Seamless access to the raised home office via a ramped entrance

  • A contemporary clay paver terrace for outdoor seating and relaxation

  • A floating hardwood bench for a warm, modern finish

  • Raised DesignClad beds to showcase seasonal planting

  • Planting for year-round interest, integrated with existing shrubs and new fencing

OB Garden Design approached this project with a focus on function, style, and long-term enjoyment. The hard landscaping creates a strong, clean framework, while the planting will evolve over time, softening the space and offering a changing palette through the seasons. The result is a modern, accessible garden that serves both practical needs and aesthetic ambitions.
