Modern Garden Design in Hampton Court: Compact, Colourful and Considered
Client Brief and Design Approach
For this riverside property in Hampton Court, the client wanted to replace the basic developer-installed garden with a stylish, functional space that reflected the modern design of the house. The original garden offered little more than a steep set of steps, a small patio, and a simple lawn with minimal planting.
The brief was to create a vibrant, contemporary garden with clean lines and a bold planting scheme. The client wanted a space that could be enjoyed for both quiet moments, like morning coffee, and for entertaining, with a larger area for outdoor dining and BBQs.
The design goals included:
-
Reworking the levels to soften the transition from house to garden
-
A larger patio space for both dining and relaxing
-
A colourful, modern planting palette to bring life to the space
-
A layout with strong lines and practical flow
-
Seating areas that make the most of the garden’s riverside setting
OB Garden Design approached this project by focusing on simplicity, structure, and seasonal interest. The steps were redesigned to create a more gentle transition, and the patio was extended to accommodate multiple uses. Colourful perennials, ornamental grasses, and evergreen structure were introduced to bring year-round appeal, while the new layout encourages relaxed, modern outdoor living.
