This unique garden project focused on transforming a disused shed into a dedicated fitness and yoga studio in a London garden. With the studio set at the rear of the garden, the design needed to create an inviting, energising outdoor space that would feel both calm and uplifting.
The new studio opens onto a decked terrace that catches the evening sun, perfect for cooling down after a workout or enjoying peaceful time outdoors. The planting scheme was designed to create privacy, structure, and softness around this space. Large structural plants were placed near the house to ground the design, with sweeping grasses and perennials surrounding the terrace and studio to add colour, movement and seasonal interest.
The design goals included:
A decked terrace for relaxing and stretching in the evening sun
Large structural planting near the house for form and screening
Colourful perennials and ornamental grasses around the studio and terrace
A calm, contemporary feel that supports both exercise and relaxation
A planting layout that matures beautifully through the seasons
OB Garden Design approached this project by balancing bold form with lightness and flow. Every planting choice supports the tranquil atmosphere of the studio space, while the layout guides natural movement between house, terrace and studio.
