Garden Design for a London Townhouse
Client Brief and Design Approach
This project focused on a series of three high-end modern townhouses in South London, each with compact rear garden spaces. The brief was to create stylish, low-maintenance gardens that would feel like a seamless extension of the new interiors, making the most of every square metre.
Contemporary Townhouse Courtyards in South London
This project focused on a series of three high-end modern townhouses in South London, each with compact rear garden spaces. The brief was to create stylish, low-maintenance gardens that would feel like a seamless extension of the new interiors, making the most of every square metre.
With limited space, the design focused on simplicity and integration. Built-in planters and floating timber benches were proposed to define the layout while keeping the space visually open. By fixing the seating and aligning the materials with those used inside the homes, each courtyard garden feels like a natural continuation of the indoor living space — blending inside and out.
The design goals included:
Built-in seating to maximise usable space
Raised planters for structure, height and soft planting
A modern, clean aesthetic to match the architecture
A layout that extends the living space outdoors
Low-maintenance planting with texture and seasonal colour
OB Garden Design approached this project with careful attention to detail, using architectural lines, warm textures and well-considered planting to turn small outdoor spaces into private, modern courtyards that feel spacious, stylish and connected to the home.
